Antalya Museum of Lycian Civilizations presents a unique location situated on the southwest coast of Turkey, in the city of Antalya. In ancient times, known as Andriake, it wasn't a separate city but rather an external district and port of Myra. It provided a sheltered harbor for trade ships traveling along the east-west route across the Mediterranean Sea and offered logistical support to sailors.
This port's prominence began in the Classical Era and continued through the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods. A distinctive feature of the museum is the Granarium, also known as the Horrea Hadriani or Imperial Silos, a unique structure spanning over 2300 square meters that has survived to this day. It was built during the reign of Emperor Hadrian (129-130 AD).
The museum showcases the rich heritage of the Lycian civilization, including local traditions and unique tomb architectures, through interactive presentations. Eight halls of the museum are dedicated to various aspects of Lycian history and culture, covering the region's history, epigraphy, coins, economy, social life, and religious rituals.
